CHARLOTTETOWN - The Storm continued its home dominance with a fifth straight win at home and third straight over the visiting Moncton Magic on Tuesday afternoon’s Boxing Day matchup.
Tyler Scott opened the game with a commanding three-pointer while Du’Vaughn Maxwell poured in ten points to give the Storm a hard-fought 26-22 lead after the first quarter.
The Magic pressed in the second quarter, with tensions rising after the Storm’s Maxwell and the Magic’s Anthony Cox scuffled halfway through the quarter.
The Magic’s free throw ability led to a strong quarter, outshooting the Storm by 9-points to put the Storm down 51-46 at the half.
Franklin Session was firing on all cylinders to start the third quarter while Scott, Maxwell and Andre Stringer continued to establish a strong offensive presence to help the Storm tie the game halfway through the quarter.
Despite Stringer’s half court buzzer-beater to end the quarter, the Magic fought back in the second half of the third quarter to retake the lead, 84-79, heading into the final frame.
Scott was hot from the three-point line nailing two crucial three-pointers for the Storm in the fourth quarter as the Storm controlled the final frame.
With under 10 seconds to play in the game Session battled and fought his way through the Magic to get his own free throw rebound and nailed another two free throws to put the game away for the Storm.
The Storm finished with a 120-117 for their third straight win against the Magic this year.
The Storm heads to Saint John on Saturday night to take on the Riptide before coming back to the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown for a New Years Eve battle against the Halifax Hurricanes on Sunday at 2 p.m.
