Storm, Global Pet Foods partner to continue reading program

Released: September 25, 2017

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Island Storm is proud to announce a major partnership with Global Pet Foods on PEI to once again offer our reading program to local students on the island.

Global Pet Foods will be making it possible for the Storm to travel PEI, from tip-to-tip, visiting classrooms to read with students and promote education.

Josh Blinder, a partner at both the Summerside and Charlottetown Global Pet Foods stores, is looking forward to collaborate on a project that gives back to youth.

“As an Island owned and operated business, we aim to positively impact our local community every day and look for partners, with similar values, that can help us achieve this. We love the influence the Island Storm has on our next generation of leaders and look forward to the impact they will have throughout this school year."

For six consecutive years, the Storm has visited nearly every island school on an annual basis to meet with students.

Storm center Nick Evans has read to thousands of students during his time on the island, a feeling that never gets old, he says.

“It’s so inspiring to get to stand in front of a group of young students who are eager to learn. To have a professional athlete say that reading is cool just might have a positive impact on their approach.”

Evans and the Storm made its first reading stop last week at Grace Christian School, with plenty more slated for the coming months. If you’re interested in having a Storm player visit your classroom, youth group, or community center, please write us at info@stormbasketball.ca.
