Brad States re-signs for second pro season

Released: September 15, 2017

The Island Storm has announced Friday the re-signing of Storm forward Brad States.

The six-foot-seven forward played two seasons with the UPEI Panthers and spent one semester at Holland College before making the jump to professional basketball with the Storm last season.

“It’s a great place to play.  I love playing in front of the great PEI fans that we have here, I really wanted to be part of that again.”

Storm Coach Tim Kendrick says the Bathurst, New Brunswick native has just scratched the surface on his pro career.

“He’s a great player with high energy.  His skills have really improved since I’ve known him.”

Kendrick and States’ relationship goes back to their time together at UPEI, where States was named an AUS all-star in the 2015-16 season.

“I’ve got great familiarity with Brad. His potential is sky-high and I’m excited to watch him this year.”

States credits Coach Kendrick with developing him into the player he is today.

“He has the most confidence in his players.  I’ve played my best basketball for him in the past so it definitely helped me with my decision.”

In 40 games last season, States averaged three points and two rebounds per game.

States is more prepared for his second professional season, he says.

“I’ve gotten stronger in the off-season and now I know what to expect when going through the long season.”

Coach Kendrick is expecting big things from States this year.

“We’re excited to have him.  He’s a high level player, an underrated passer and he’s become a better shooter.  We’re expecting him to be a big rebounder, a passer and make shots.”

Bringing a professional championship back to PEI and becoming a better player is the ultimate goal for States this year.

“Why play if you aren’t going to win?”
