The Island Storm announced Wednesday the signing of Rob Nortmann.
He makes his return to the Storm after playing for the team last season, where he posted averages of 1.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game on 40% shooting from the field.
Coach Joe Salerno feels the 6-foot-9 forward fills a void that has been leaving the team exposed in the paint this season.
“We needed to add some depth to our front court, particularly someone who will defend and rebound the ball with consistency, and Rob certainly fits that description. He has proven he isn't scared to mix it up inside, and be a physical presence.”
This signing comes in the middle of the Storm’s current 5-game home stand, which will give Coach Salerno the chance to reintroduce Nortmann to the team’s system and his new teammates.
“He showed us last season he is a blue collar player who will accept his role, and will play hard day in and day out. It will be great to have Rob back in the lineup.”
To make room for Nortmann, the Storm has released Demitri Harris, although he won’t be going far.
“We’re happy to say Demitri will remain on the island and act as a Basketball Ambassador for the Storm,” said the team’s vice president of business operations, Brett Poirier.
Harris will continue his regular duties with the team, such as attending team functions, practices, and games. He could even rejoin the active roster if the opportunity presents itself.
“If you know Demi it’s not hard to see why we asked him to stay. He’s a fantastic teammate and a leader in our community efforts.”
