The Island Storm and the National Basketball League of Canada has suspended Tirrell Baines for two games, to be served on April 20 and April 23, for conduct detrimental to the team.
“Both our franchise and the NBL Canada have certain policies put in place to hold our players to a high standard. This is something we as a franchise have always valued and take very seriously. Unfortunately Tirrell did not adhere to some of those policies thus resulting in the suspension,” said Storm coach Joe Salerno.
“It’s unfortunate, for I believe Tirrell has been playing some of his best basketball as of late. I’m sure T will learn from this mistake, and we will look forward to getting him back in the lineup come the 24th.”
Baines joined the team in late January and has been one of Salerno’s top players since the signing.
The 6-foot-8 forward is third in team scoring, averaging 12.8 points per game to go along with six rebounds.
The Storm travels to Moncton on Wednesday for a matchup against the Miracles and returns home for a Saturday night showdown against the Halifax Hurricanes at Eastlink Centre. Tickets for the April 23 game can be purchase by clicking here.
