The Island Storm hung around, barely, and knocked off the Halifax Hurricanes 108-106 on Friday night.
The Island once had a 27-point lead but the Hurricanes but it to just one point late in the fourth quarter. It was clutch free throw shooting by the Storm that put the game out of reach for the Hurricanes.
Brent Jennings led the way with 22 points and 8 rebounds. In his Storm debut, Chad Posthumus scored 14 points and added 6 boards.
In the loss Justin Johnson provided most of the spark for the Hurricanes. Contributing 28 points and 9 assists.
After a back and fourth first quarter, the Storm was able to control things in the second and a large majority of the third before Halifax made things interesting. The 2,114 at Eastlink Centre began to get nervous as Halifax hit several three-point shots late in the frame.
With the win the Storm improves to 9-14, while the Hurricanes fall to 14-7.
Next up for the Storm is a road trip over the Confederation Bridge to visit Moncton on Sunday afternoon, with tip off set for 2 p.m.
The Storm is back on Island soil on March 17th for a Thursday night affair with the Mill Rats.
